There is a great opportunity following winter wheat to grow cover crops, which can also be used as additional forage. As producers needed and considered this forage opportunity, it became obvious that virtually no data existed on the best crop to fill this void. Even once the cover crop species was chosen, management for optimum forage yield was unknown. Optimum seeding and nitrogen rates were major areas were data was minimal or even non-existent.
This project was initiated to determine agronomic recommendations for cereal crops grown as forage following a winter wheat crop.
